Born in St. Petersburg in 1887.

Studied at the Penza Art School under K.A. Savitsky (his father), N.K. Grandkovsky and A.F. Afanasiev between 1902 and 1908.

From 1908 to 1915 Savitsky studied under V.Y. Makovsky and F. A. Rubo at the Academy of Arts.

From 1913 contributed to exhibitions of the Independents, the Peredvizhniki (the Wanderers) and the Kuindzhi Society.

Savitsky was among the organizers of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AKhRR).

Taught at the Surikov Art Institute between 1947 and 1949.

Member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR from 1949.

Died in Moscow in 1949.
