Born in Prague on 13 May 1935.
He took up photography in 1963.
By the late 1970s Saudek had been acclaimed in the West as the foremost Czech photographer, specializing in erotica. He was forced to work underground until 1984 when the Czechoslovak authorities permitted him to work as an artist photographer.
Even in the West censors repeatedly barred his works on relations between men and women from show and publication up to the 1990s.
Today Saudek is a recognized master, whose exhibitions are held throughout the world and whose works form part of the most prestigious photo collections of Europe and America. Numerous art books and monographs deal with his works.
Saudek lives in Prague.
