Born in New York in 1947.

In 1974 he graduated from Marlboro College, majoring in psychology and photography and in 1985 obtained a master’s degree in photography from the Art Institute of California, San Francisco.

Sturges specializes in photographing primarily adolescent nudes, due to which he has repeatedly had problems with US authorities and religious organizations.

One of the most popular contemporary American photographers, Sturges has had his works described in several monographs and included in leading museum collections of the US and Europe.
