Born in 1877 in St. Petersburg, according to some sources, and in Strasbourg, according to others.

He attended the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.

In the 1900s he came to Paris where he studied under J.-P. Laurent, R. Collin and G. Courtois at the École des Beaux-Arts.

From the late 1900s Thiele exhibited his works.

Iwan Thiele died in 1948.
